Welcome to the Cannonball

Hello, and Welcome to the Cannonball. My name is Zach, and I have created this blog as a tool to showcase and exhibit my art, the main subject being trains, namely Interurbans, Streetcars, and other electrics. But other things may show up from time to time as well.

To Start, I have here a few of my recent works, all showcasing Electric equipment preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum, in Union, IL.

About this Blog

Welcome to The Cannonball. No, that's not the Wabash variety, but a different train. The Cannonball was the name of a train on the Chicago Aurora and Elgin, an electric line that ran between downtown Chicago and the Fox River Valley until 1957. The Cannonball ran Non Stop, Chicago to Wheaton, in 40 minutes. It was well patronized, and always ran with the full 8 cars the CA&E could run in one train. It was indeed the hottest train on the CA&E schedule.

In this blog, I hope to keep you all updated in my artistic endeavors. I have traditionally used Pencil and ink as my drawing medium, but I am beginning to experiment in digital mediums with a tablet and Opencanvas.
